Engineer Attachment and PCPs: Why Your PEC File Needs a Real Engineer

How engineers, cards and professional credit points decide your category — and the attachment mistakes that cost firms their licence.

01Why the engineer matters

PEC does not license a firm on paper alone. The engineers attached to it on the portal are what meet the category’s requirement. An engineer kept “on paper in a drawer” does not count — the attachment has to show on the firm’s PEC record.

02What attachment needs

  • The engineer’s live PEC card
  • An appointment letter from the firm and an acceptance letter from the engineer
  • A no-objection certificate from the previous firm, where the engineer was attached elsewhere
  • The firm’s current licence and the owner’s CNIC
  • Biometric verification

03The card must be live first

The personal card has to be current before it can be attached. Attachment with an expired card is refused on the portal. If an engineer’s card is due, renew it before attachment or before the firm’s renewal.

04Never use a fake attachment

Attaching an engineer who does not actually work with the firm is how licences get cancelled. Only attach a real, available engineer with a valid card.

05When the engineer leaves

If your engineer leaves, your file can fall below its category requirement. Attach a replacement quickly — and before any upgrade, check whether the destination category needs more engineers or more credit points.
